What is MIND? --------- Explorations in Cognitive Science, Psychology, Philosophy, Psychoanalysis, Language, Buddhism, Religion and Art ---------------- Welcome to MIND is ------------ and please join us in exploring that which is fundamentally ungraspable,  the most complex, intricate, subtle yet ultimately elusive entity ever (un)known to the human kind - the Mind. In fact, it has been said that we, the humans, "exist" only because the Mind "exists", yet there is no Mind outside or without us. As the eyeball that can not see itself, the Mind can not be grasped by a mind. Enigmatic terra incognita, the Mind, historically an exclusive subject matter within philosophy and psychology, becomes a new frontier for this new Millennium, as it begins to attract increasingly more attention from cognitive scientists, theoretical physicists, internet/computer (AI) systems developers, advertisers, artists and art critics, spiritual/religious teachers and the general public. Computer science, artificial intelligence, expert systems, linguistics, quantum mechanics, art and literary criticism, hermeneutics, cognitive psychology, medicine, psychiatry, psychotherapy,  neuroscience, meditation, are only some of the a few most known areas where study of the Mind is currently under way. This site is a forum to question what Mind is. How does it work? Where is it  located? How big is it? Do animals have Mind? How about  inanimate objects - trees, mountains and rivers, the ocean - do they "have Mind"? What does it mean to "have Mind"? Can Mind be simulated in/by a computer? If Mind resides in the brain, is Mind bigger in a larger brain? Is its size related to the size of the brain? What are the boundaries of the Mind, are they limited to the central nervous system or physical body? Is it inside or outside? Where does it come from at birth and what happens to it after death?  Is Mind the same as consciousness? soul? psyche? identity? self? me? I? awareness? attention? memory?  unconsciousness? intelligence? cognition? perception? thought? idea? imagination? God? Universe? Time-space? Language? Are mind and body separate? How are Mind, body and self related? Fundamentally beyond existence and nonexistence, birth and death, the Mind, even if it manifests itself in (as) all phenomena, can not be grasped by the senses or the intellect. To "know" it is to be separated from it. To "be" it is to be entrapped in your own concept of what it "is". The reality of it, the essence, continues to elude us. The moment we name it it is not it. Besides, who is the one who "knows" or "is" Mind? What does it mean to "know" or to "be" Mind? What does it mean that Mind or anything "is"? What is "is"? What does it mean that "MIND is"?  If any of these questions is important to you, explore our site, explore the Mind, with us and contribute your insights or comments. We would like to hear from and about you. Thank you for stopping by and please come again. May your life go well.
